More than 200 Attend Downstate Summit Hosted by ECIDC

Map, developed by LLC geography and earth science instructor Dr. Mike Rudibaugh, illustrates Illinois locations represented by Downstate Summit attendees.
Creating a Common Voice, a downstate economic development summit and the first of its kind in Illinois, was hosted by the East Central Illinois Development Corporation (ECIDC) on September 29, 2011, in Effingham. The one-day event brought together downstate leaders to create a common voice on economic development issues that would be heard in Springfield and Washington D.C. Heralded as an overwhelming success by 200 community leaders, development officials and vested business representatives from across the state in attendance, development officials learned about current trends and tools, communicated with legislators about issues of concern, and collaborated with others to determine what steps might be taken to make Illinois more competitive in the regional, national and global marketplaces.

Add Your Voice: School and District Efficiency Survey
Do you have ideas for how public schools and districts can be more efficient? With the expectation of continued budgetary challenges for P-12 education in Illinois, the Classrooms First Commission, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon, is collecting innovative and practical ideas for improving school and district efficiency while preserving and enhancing classroom learning opportunities for students. We believe that the public has much to contribute in terms of providing the Commission with useful ideas for educational opportunity and efficiency. Suggestions may address individual schools, districts, multiple districts, collaborations among school district and other organizations, regions, or the state as a whole. The more survey responses the Commission receives, the more informed its recommendations will be. Please access the survey here to submit your idea(s).
